  • Rear toe-in alignment on aspire swap

A while back I did an aspire swap on my 91 Festy. I just took my car to the shop for an alignment and found out that the toe-in alignment on my left rear wheel is off by about 0.31 degrees. I know that shims will correct this, but can somebody tell me what kind of shims to get and also the procedure for doing this?

this is a 1/4 degree shim
but if im not mistaken guys help me out .31 degrees isn't that bad?

No it's not terrible, but it's enough to create some premature wear on my tires and a little vibration. How do you replace them? What's the process?

That is 1/4" from just one wheel. That is like having 1/2" total toe on your front end. Using just a tape measure you can be accurate to 1/16" toe.

There are 4 nuts on the inside that hold the spindle on. You can use shims or washers between the spindle and the axle. Measure the toe after snugging the nuts.
Trusting the alignment shop and the readings they provided you can correct your toe .

Your car will not know the difference between washers or shims. Shims are harder to find, but easier to work with as you can slip them in and out without removing the nut and bolt. A wrecking yard might be a easy source, fenders are often attached with shims to make it look like they can build a straight car lol.

You may have a bent spindle or axle, we encountered this setting up an ice race car. Two axle assemblies and a few spindles were bent. Put a long straight edge on the edges of the beam axle, it should sit perfectly flush, if not hunt for the bend. Check the spindles carefully, they are not that hard to bend. If something is bent shims are not really the way to go.

I have seen four bent about the same amount. It is bad enough you can get behind the car and gun sight comparing the two sides and go how did I not see that ?
There are other ways to check it, we have discussed a lot of them. Some of you are in the rust area? Shims can open the area enough to hold road dirt and rust would be something to consider. It has to be bent like Ice says. Even replacing the whole assembly is pretty easy, they are one of the lightest on a car.

I had a corrected rear beam but left it in an old house by mistake. Wish I had it now
