  • CV axle stuck in G series trans, please help!

I have tried everything on this thing. The cup is stuck in the transmission and I cannot get it to pop loose. I have tried prying from one side, both sides with helper, hitting the cup with tension hitting the transmission. Drilled two holes in both sides of cup and put a pin thru and hit it with a slide hammer, after that didn't work added tension with a come-along and smacked around with sledge and no help. I am at an absolute loss on this, I feel like I have tried everything. Can anyone help?

Or anyone want to but a 1993 GL sport bp swap, runs, new timing belt, water pump, and passenger axle installed, just needs drivers axle installed? I am half kidding but am half serious because I cannot fork out the 350 dollars that the junkyard wants for a transmission right now if I can't get this thing out

i have a 5 speed from a 90's model unknown condition i got it with a motor i bought if you can find out how to ship it to you ill just give it to you the guy said he had problems shifting so probably syncro's the main input bearing feels nice and tight so the bearings are probably good and i can shift through every gear in my bench with no problems

Well I have a bp swap in my Festiva, so the trans is also from a protege as the engine was. I would really prefer to not downgrade my transmission, but I really thank you for the offer.

Shouldn't have dried holes in the cup. You should have just pull the axle clip and swap axes leaving cup in trans. I had to do that once on an e series.

Well I was swapping axles for Rio axles and the cups arent the same. I had thought of this idea in hindsight, but not much I can do now. Had contemplated pulling a protege axle for the drivers side and jb welding the holes up and doing as you suggested, I only really needed the Rio axle on the passenger side to eliminate a broken/improperly mounted intermediate shaft.

Sorry your having so much trouble. The cir-clip may be mangled. The only thing I can suggest if you have not already is try pushing in and turning the shaft a bit in hopes that if the clip is damaged it may be positioned in a way to better release. Its not much. More of the same really. I had one like this. I had to dog it out with a metal wedge I made. Go mid-evil on it.

I have tried it in many different positions but I will keep trying, I have my uncle coming tmrw or Monday to see if he can add additional insight. He had an idea about bracing passenger side with come along maybe at the frame rail or some other structurally strong part than hooking chain through pin in cup attach other end of chain to tow hitch on his truck and giving it a good tug, like a 3000 pound slide hammer essentially. Is this idea as crazy as it sounds, or is it soooo crazy it just might work?

The idea is sound but its dangerous be careful not to pull the car off the stands
I heard of one guy somehow using a 3 jaw puller on a stuck axle. He said it worked but idk
. I always just push mine all the way in and jerk really hard and after a few sharp tugs mine always pop right out.

Take your other axle out, put a screw driver through the transmission and hit the axle out. I do this all the time on stuck axles. Usually pops out within the first 3 hits. If you want the correct tool for doing this, call up your local snap on dealer and buy the blue point tool for it. It goes around the pin that is in the way and touches both sides of the axle. The tool is about $70, that's why I use a screwdriver.
