  • Front turn signals no longer functioning

Hi guys, recently, I repaired my front radiator support with a bolt-in fix I found here on the forum. To perform this repair, I had to remove the bumper cover. Not a problem. I did the repair and put the bumper back on, which included reconnecting the turn signals. Now I am experiencing issues with the turn signals no longer functioning. They were working perfectly fine beforehand.

Now, I do not have access to a voltage meter otherwise I would use one to see if I'm getting power to the connector. One thing I did notice with the driver's side signal was one of the wires going to the connector was badly frayed at the end where it connects to the metal tab that slides into the connector. It was so bad that only a few of the wires were even in contact with the metal tab. So I know that will need to be replaced and is likely the issue with that side. However, on the passenger side, the wires to the connector look great with no evidence of damage. I've disconnected the connector and cleaned it a little to see if that would help. Well it didn't and I'm at a loss now. I checked my fuses and they all look great. The bulb looks good. One thing I did notice is when I took the bulb out to check it, the back plate of where the bulb connects is rusty. Could this be causing the issue?

I'm a little wet behind the ears when it comes to electrical stuff and wiring. Please forgive any obvious blunders.

If you have any WD-40 you could try spraying everything with that.
    It cleans and removes moisture.

It could be the rust you mentioned. Here is a very inexpensive voltmeter. They are very handy to have from time to time.

            Consider this possibility.

Fixed the signals today. They had quite a bit of corrosion on the terminals, so I cleaned those up some more with some sandpaper and now they are working. I bought some extra connectors at the local junkyard and rewired the section that was frayed. I'm just glad my car is a bit more legal now.

              Thanks for the input!

Be sure to clean the contacts on your main fuse too. It also is non-sealed and can cause a lot of trouble if you never remove the corrosion.

That's a great idea. The main fuse is in the driver's side of the engine bay, right?

Correct. My technique goes like this...
Be sure you can wiggle the three terminal in its connector position.
If it doesn't wiggle use a little Mazola and a pair of pliers to get it to gently wiggle.
Insert the Summit terminal removal tool all the way to where the tang sticks out, and then push it in gently. Do the same to the one on the other side. Gentle wiggling and pulling (so as not to crumple the tang by pulling too hard). Otherwise, you will never get it out in one piece.
