  • Stock shifter hard to shift

    89 4 speed carbed.

The shifter is getting harder to shift forward and back. Its not really binding, its just very stiff. No other issues. I have rolled around under the car to check it out doesn't seem to be much to the shifter.

What would be the first thing to try and lube/grease up, etc.?

    Thanks

have you checked fluid level? low fluid could cause extra friction at the synchronizers. also how long since you changed the fluid?

I have neither checked it nor replaced it. Was thinking I might do that as a next step just for piece of mind.

I assume the tranny takes ATF type F? I'll have to check the owners manual. I have only put about 1000 miles on the car in between replacing all the brakes and suspension.
