I don't know if this is the same clunking you are experiencing or not,but I will relate a clunk I had.One of my Aspires started making a clunking noise when taking off.Could never find the source and it kept getting worse.One day the problem became very apparent.I took off from a stop sign went about eight feet and it let out a big clunk and would just rev up but not move. Disassembly of the trans revealed it had sheared all the teeth off the pinion gear. Problem found.:sad10: Is that the same as yours?I don't know.
