  • Carbed festiva!!!!!!!

Ok guys I bought this little festiva from my cousin to drive to work and everyday...tried to help him get it running better cause was always running rich...he got tired of it so I got it and purchased a mid 80's escort new carb..made my own adapter and put it on had few vacuum probs and finally got them work out under carb ..2 days ago I fired it up and was really surprised how it run..adjusted idle and air mixture screw and let it sit and idle for about 45 mins...was doing great so I took on about 20 mile trip and did awesome ..come home shut it off and now I can't get to idle and it's running rich and making it smoke out of exhaust ..found idle cut off selnoid quit so I just pulled it and cut plunger off just to see it that was it and nope that's not it and can't find a leak...love to keep and drive but I'm just about done with it unless somebody has any good answers ....or I might just sell it I'm in north central Arkansas so you can pm me And I can get you info ..😢

Sounds like you got something in the carb. Anytime the idle/air screws don't work usually something's wrong. Ethanol and carbs don't mix.

When you pull the sender to peek in your tank, please use a flashlight.

There's a plug on the bottom of the gas tank for draining.

My buddy runs this carb on his b3 and doesn't have any issues. He had some bad leaks so me and him rebuilt the carb now it's getting 35 mpgs and runs great. No wires just a carb. He runs a manual choke. If it doesn't crank up right away you can pull the choke and it will fire.
                It's not the cars fault.

You might spray some carb cleaner around on your adapter plate and see if the idle changes. If it does you probably have an air leak. I have a Rocketman adapter and an Escort carb and it all runs great together. Was the carb you got used? Wonder what size jets for a B3? you're gonna have some fine tuning to do. Always goes that way with a new carb install. Do you have the electric choke hooked up? Very important. One time my wire was left disconnected and it took about ten minutes to foul out all my plugs and make the car run like crap!
