  • Gas Gauge - Reads Full or Empty, No In Between

I am about to put the 89 Festiva for sale. I noticed that the gas gauge reads full when it is full and then drops to empty after about 50 miles. The car is a carby, I pulled the gauge assembly out of the tank and checked out the float, as long as I hold the arm all the way up the gauge will read full, if I drop the arm just a bit then the gauge drops to empty.

Is there any way to clean or repair the sending unit?

    Thanks

Not really. Is this a manual trans or auto? Meaning is it carb or efi? manual trans=carb and auto=efi. Different fuel systems for them.
Put up a WTB for your type fuel system.

Worn resistance wire is a common problem on 26 year old cars. That is why I chose to install a new sender before mine went bad. The problem with carb senders is that they are spot welded onto the fuel tank cover and are considered an assembly.

Look what I found using the search engine!

      Good luck.
