First the right headlight gave out then two days later the left one gave out as well. I changed the build still no go. Change the fusible links under the hood, still no go. The Fuses under the steering wheel don't have any headlights labeled… Whats next? Headlight Switch? Headlight Relay?

I recently changed my bulbs and the new bulbs didn't work. I found out, I somehow bent a pin in each of the connectors going to bulbs when I installed the new bulbs. You old bulbs may have burnt out and did exactly what I did when you replaced the bulbs.Rick

Jiggle your wiring harness. Something similar happened to me. I have an 89 wiring harness with no headlight relay. I verified the power was going through the combination switch just fine. The juice had a hard time getting around the corner behind the L/H headlight. I just jiggled and taped it into position when both headlights came on, in order to pass the safety inspection. Strange, but true.Last edited by bravekozak; 07-04-2015, 03:38 PM.

Odd they should both go about the same time. Shorted and burned out? Do you have a test light or volt meter? Assume all the other lights work so switch must be okay. Just in case I'd spray WD-40 or contact cleaner on the switch. Also check connectors for corrosion. Disconnect, clean, reconnect. Check for rusted grounds, ie incomplete circuit. However blown bulbs would suggest short rather than incomplete circuit. No fun being grounded at night!Original owner of silver grey carburetted 1989 Festiva. 105k km as of June 2006. 140k km as of June 2021.

The power goes to both low beams on the same wire and both high beams on the same wire. The splices are right behind the left front headlight where the wiring harness curves out from the l/h fender into the engine compartment and then under the top rad mount frame. The splices are slightly staggered. I untaped them, checked them and then re-taped them. Believe me, I did every test under the sun to figure this problem out. I checked grounds too! I think the old wire is fragile and may have some cracks inside the filaments. If I ever yank the harness again, I will completely replace the headlamp wiring. It's not the bulbs. I tested those against other bulbs, and performed all the multimeter tests for continuity.Last edited by bravekozak; 07-04-2015, 04:03 PM.

They went out at the same time or not ? High and low ? you have stock lights, not HID or LED ? If it is a power problem you can cut the circuits in half. Unplug the high low switch and jump the circuits. There should be power on the incoming. If not test supply power. If the lights won't come on test toward the bulbs. If they work replace the switch.Reflex paint by Langeman...Lifted...Tow Rig
