maybe ignition module. check to see if you have spark by pulling a plug out and then ground it and crank it.....of course with the plug wire on.

Man, what a mess! There are a few peeps here that could really help you, better than I can, but I did check a couple things for you.

I think you have problem with power to ignition coil, or, a bad coil. Looking at RockAuto.com website shows different part numbers for 1989 year, than for 90-93 years.
I don't think the ignition coil from 90-93 will work on the 89.
1989 Auto's are different wiring harness and some different components.

BTW ... RockAuto.com is a good place to get parts and cheap, good quality parts.

Most of your issues are with the wiring and coil, I believe. Changing out the non- festiva stuff was a good thing! Toyota and Nissan parts! Wow!

Good luck and I hope you get it fixed!

I am not sure of this so others please confirm or deny what I am about to state.

89 Festivas are either carbies or EFI. Do you have a carbie distributor in an EFI car?

88-89's were carb'd except for 89' automatics, they were EFI

Long shot here. The rotor button will go on in 3 different positions. If you removed your distributer cap and rotor button, you may have re-installed the rotor button in the wrong position. Remove the distributer cap, lift the rotor button off the shaft, rotate it 120 degrees and place it back on the shaft, install distributer cap and crank engine. Essentially, when the #1 piston is at top dead center, the rotor button electrode should be pointing at the #1 spark plug wire on the distributer cap.

What Dale means is top dead centre on the compression stroke. Some people don't get that.

Above are good things to check. In you vid with the Haynes manual, you showing the 88-89 module in the distributor, only applies to CARB models. The Auto tranny 89, have an external ICM, like you have shown in your 1st vid.
So, you have an auto trans with EFI, so you have an external ICM, which you were pointing to in the 1st vid, and I believe the external ICM for 89, is different than the external 90-93 ICM.
Someone correct me if I am wrong, but RockAuto.com shows different part numbers for the external ICM for 89 and external ICM for 90-93 models

The 89 FSM shows the ICM inside the disty on both. I happened to be looking that up yesterday.

I think the main source of your issue is the condition of the wiring harness. It appears from the video that it's been hacked up quite a bit in the engine compartment and by the steering column. I might be worth your while to find a replacement harness and switch it out. I think there's an '89 automatic Festiva in one of the PnP yards in Calgary at the moment. Let me know if you're interested and we can discuss things via PM.

I'm not sure if its related, but it looks like you still have fusible links. When they go out the car will not start. I had a similar issue with one of mine, so I switched them out and it started right up. You might want to consider switching them out for long legged fuses. 30-40-30 amp, you can get them at a junkyard basically for free.

Happy New Years to everyone reading this thread well not much has happened to my black festy Its still just sitting on my drive way. Ive taken parts out actually for my other Aqua Festy :} Ive taken the exhaust system, Back plastic panels, and tires. It has turned into a parts car but im still not giving up yet. This year I plan to start on getting it running.

I also have been looking up threads on swapping to a 90's engine and make it a stick shift car.
Or maybe B6! Not sure what to do yet.hmmmmmm

I will make more video updates if you guys want or care but not sure when, Right now im busy trying to fix Aqua Festy
She is stalling (well once so far...) For an example after i go on a errand I get back in the car and turn the key Festy wont
start. :dontknow: Takes like an Hour! for it to start up again. Anyways im busy with that.

So yeah this thread is not over.:woc:

I had a rotary engine RX7 that did that, a well known problem for them. The fuel injectors bleed a little bit after it is turned off and flood the engine so it won't start. The cheap fix is a switch on the fuel pump, and kill then engine with the switch before turning off the ignition. I have not heard of that in piston engines, but you could be having a flooding problem from bad injectors. If you kill the engine by pulling the power to the fuel pump (fuse, or connector under driver side dash) that could test for this problem.
Otherwise it sounds electronic, some transistor or resistor that stops working when it gets too hot. It might be in the distributor, coil or even a spark plug lead.
