  • Engine shuts down

I've had this problem for about 2 yrs now.
I ask this question once before with no response & search is no help.
In the summer time (mostly) when its hot outside & the engine heats up when I come to a stop the engine shuts down.
It restarts immediately on the first try.
If I'm very careful & down shift all the way to 1st when approching a stop light or sign it usually will not shut down.
This does not happen , usually, in cooler weather.
    What could be causing this.
Its not major , but annoining as all.
If it don't fit, use a bigger hammer!

Could be leak between air filter and throttle body, Air flow sensor, or any part of the idle bypass circuit. This consists of a bypass port in the throttle body, and idle control valve under the intake manifold on drivers side.

It does not happen all the time.
In The mornings ,when the air temp is cooler its fine, not problem.
          Never checked compression.
It does seem to rum a little rich, if that could be part of it.
If it don't fit, use a bigger hammer!

Are you running A/C? We have a similar issue with Ethel (also '93).

                Yes. Almost all the time.
But I run the A/C some in the winter.
                It is Florida.

Look at the wire on the O2 sensor, Zippy's (92 EFI) wires are old so they don't stay in place like they should. When it would shut down on me, I could turn it right back on and it ran rich for a few minutes and we where all set. So long story short take a look at your o2 sensor

                    Thanks
Been thinking of replacing O2 anyway, its about 2yrs old.

O2 sensors are easy to test no sense throwing away a good. One or changing one just to see if it fixes anything all you need is a propane torch and a multi meter heat it up and watch your meter.
