This is why you can't put a thread insert in one. There is not enough material for a larger thread. With no way to measure it, and the block decapitated anyway, I went for broke - and sure enough, got broke. This was overlooked, if not caused, by an engine rebuilder in Houston, along with 2 bolts stretched to near breaking, 1 in the water pump and 1 in the oil pump.
