Love these vehicles because I know how long they can go, I purchased my first one last year. a 93 5 speed. My problem here is the coolant tank was empty and I drove the car for a couple days without realizing. The car overheated the second day and some smoke was emitting from the hood. I added more coolant, and now the engine is still running hotter than it was before the coolant tank ran out. It's floating halfway between middle and H on the meter. Any advice at this point? It's getting to that hot level in about 10 minutes of driving..

Check your Oil to make sure that it is not milky colored. If not that you might have an air bubble in the line.

You may still have air pockets in the cooling system, causing hot spots. Park the car on a slant so that the radiator cap is higher than the top hose; this will allow air bubbles to exit thru the open hole when you have the rad cap off. With the motor cold, start the car with the rad cap off and go observe any bubbles popping. You may well have to add coolant too. Put the cap back on when the coolant starts rising in the neck. Also top up the overflow tank.
