  • Bleeding brakes help

    Okay guys so maybe I'm stupid but I tried bleeding my brakes. Started rear passenger, rear driver, front passenger and front driver. The only thing is that nipple that u bleed the brakes with only fluid comes out of the rear passenger and the front driver. The other two nada. But anyway I had my brother pump the brakes and bled the them numerous times and we didn't seem to get any more pressure. What am I doing wrong?

    The proportioning valve safety works diagonally across the car.
    Before you change the proportioning valve, undo the brake line at the proportioning valve to see ir you have fluid going into the valve. If so, then replace the proportioning valve.

      I'm assuming the proportioning valve is what I used to bleed the brakes?

        No. The proportioning valve is supposed to lock the front rotors before the rear drums in a hard brake. It proportions the amount of hydraulic pressure to the brake cyclinders.

        Study this picture.
        The line closest to the vacuum chamber feeds the front right and left rear.
        The line farthest from the vacuum chamber feeds the left front and right rear.

        Make sure you have juice flowing into lower front of the proportioning valve.
        If so, then make sure you have juice flowing out the lower rear line and bottom line of the proportioning valve.

        Good luck.

        After everything is working. Have someone watch you do a hard brake. Your front wheels should lock and stop turning a split second before your back wheels lock up.

          Also did you take the bleed screws all the way out to be sure? They may be blocked. Check for pinched brake lines.

            Yes I took the bleed screws all the way out and still nothing. How could metal brake lines pinch

              Maybe a rock could have hit a hard brake line and dented it.

                Okay since I have no brake fluid at the front right and left rear tires. It's likely the proportioning valve malfunctioning. And since I just had the master cylinder off there's air in those two lines. Causing a soft brake pedal still? Does that make sense?

                  Lol, i should take a picture of mine for you. Ive done a lot of off-roading, hit a ton of big rocks, bottomed out a lot. All my floorboards are pushed way up, gas tank has big dents, exhaust is more like 1 in diameter, fake framerails are mostly flat and my fuel and brake lines are pretty mangled.
                  And yes, your pedal will still be soft if those lines arent bled. There will be air between the mc and proportioning valve.

                    The proper factory bleed sequence is rear passenger, front driver, rear driver, front passenger, per Festiva Shop Manual.

                    If the master cylinder contains air, then the master cylinder must be bled before the wheel cylinders or calipers.
