  • Auto trans interlock stuck.

My brother had trouble with his 92 festy with auto trans. The car started fine but wouldn't come out of park. He said he yanked on out out of frustration and it came out. He's a big boy! Now it won't stay in park. What may have happened to cause the lock to stick and what did he break?

Have someone shift it back and forth while you look at the linkage under the hood. If all is working fine then the issue is in the trans. Hopefully its a linkage issue. good luck

It may be Wednesday before I can get there to look at it with him. He said it has stuck before but it always ended up coming out of park.

On other cars i have worked on that are auto trans there is a cable that runs from the starter switch to the shifter assembly .If this is not functioning properly it can cause this issue in those cars.If you have a repair manual look into that.

This is his car. It's the red one. He's only had it for a few months. So far it's needed a lot of work. Cv shaft. Rack boots were gone. Wheel bearings bad. Rear brakes were rusted away and seized. Rear defrost and wiper still don't work. Gas tank was rusted out. Missing bolts in the oil pan. Loose bolts everywhere. The sway bar was ready to fall out. We are going to try to do the main seal tomorrow. I followed him home when he bought it and my windshield was covered in oil. All the while he's trying to daily drive it.
