All fixed! The ICM was indeed the problem (it worked for a few minutes until it got hot). Replacing the ICM also seems to have cured the fast idle problem -- it now runs 1800-2000 rpm, then steps down to about 1000. I do know about the white nylon adjuster knob on the right-rear of the carb.

Seems like the high idle is a warning sign for a failing icm my b6d swapped festiva did the same before it failed completely along with a random lose of power for a split second 1or 2 times on my hour comute to work.
The part number seems to be the same for the na capri .
They pop up on ebay for around 40 bucks. I got a used one but am thinking I should get me a spair at that price for peace of mind. It could easily be swapped on the side of the road if it had to be.

            William,

Yes, high idle may be the canary in the mine. My high idle problem started last fall in SLC, at least 1,000 miles ago.

As far as carrying a hot spare ICM, Auto Zone quoted me $150 for a "remanufactured" distributor (all mechanicals, but no wiring). On Monday, they'll let me know whether that includes a "new" or "tests ok' ICM. If I were not going to eventually convert all of my LXs to FIs, I'd carry a whole distributor in my parts bag, complete with new (remember, everything old gets brittle) wiring already connected and ready for a 10-minute swap-in on the side of the road at night in East Podunk.

            All,

The ICM O'Reilly sold me came in a box from BWD with p/n CBE554 on it. I now save flattened boxes with related paperwork on every critical Festy part. Before you know it, I'll be filling the "trunk" with several 8.5x11 plastic file boxes on trips. Or ... maybe it's time for a "maintenance trailer" to haul paperwork, parts, tools, etc.

I carry invoices in case something needs to be replaced under warranty away from home. Had to replace CanadianTire installed bearings in Nova Scotia on vacation one summer. Not so much now that I do my own repairs.
