  • Warped Crankshaft????

I bought an engine with assumed low miles (30K) after driving the car with the new engine about 50 miles it started blowing a lot of oil out of the valve cover (Blow-By). I have pulled the pistons to reveal that almost all of the 4 pistons are warped where the bottom compression ring groove is (so much so that the rings would not come out). I have already ordered new pistons, rings, and all bearings to rebuild the engine. However, I was told that this could be a sign of a warped crankshaft. Has anyone had this problem before or have any input on the topic. I dont have much money and cant really afford to have it checked by a mach shop or get another.

I seriously doubt the crankshaft is warped. It is more likely you have the wrong connecting rods or wrong pistons. When you get the new pistons, check the length from the connecting rod pin hole to the bottom of the piston. Compare the new one to the one you removed. If they are the same, try to find the specs for the connecting rod - center of wrist pin hole to center of crankshaft hole. You may have a shorter than stock connecting rod.
    You gonna race that thing?

I've done a lot of reading up on it and find almost everyone saying it's running rich. Basically Hydraulicing the engine. Is there any input on this? I will check the pistons and rods, but i know the pistons in my old engine are the same size as are the rods.

yes carbed engine with presumably an aspire engine (as the block and crankshaft pulley bolts on a lot different). No pictures yet but can get some on later today.

This is insane. And this is still the same engine you got from me, yeah?
Any difference that makes no difference is no difference.

I'm not sure. I can't remember now, and last I asked Reed, he didn't remember either. I know it really was none of my doing, but it's just crazy, because it seemed so perfect when I had it in the black car.

If it helps, you can have the crank, rods and pistons out of my 93 engine for the cost of shipping. It has 188,000 miles on it and ran great except the block has an exterior crack that leaked coolant.

OK so these are pictures of the front a d back of 1 piston but they all look the same. NOTICE the clean line at the top of the 2 ring land. That is where it is opened up on the first and clamped down on the 2nd. Also note the wrist pin holes are extremely Wallace out ( not round) don't know if that's a tell sign or not. Seems to me if the crank were the issue it would be pinched on the sides not the front and back.IMG_20160324_075715.jpgIMG_20160324_075703.jpg

seems unlikely that the crank is warped, however I'm afraid I may have egged cylinders as the wrist pins and holes are not round, fear the pistons may have been moving around in the cylinders a lot.
