  • DRL parts- need help locating on car

Hey, i need some part for my daytime running lights and i dont know what part, can anyone help me out? I installed HID's in the winter and every time i left the headlights off so that just the daytime running lights would be on there was a very loud and fast clicking from the front of the car that wouldnt stop until i turn on the low or high beams. Sounded like a solenoid opening and closing really fast. I just have always turned the lights on all the time but i forgot a couple times and the ticking stopped and the drl's wont come on at all. So i believe i need to replace whatever part was ticking right? I am taking out the HID's for the summer. Can anyone tell me where this part or any/all parts related to the daytime running lights are located and roughly what they look like? I am unexpectedly going to where my parts cars are tomorrow and would like to get the parts. Im only there a couple times a year :/ Any help would be great! Thanks.*

I found this by searching on "headlight relay"..."I've had this problem it turned out to be the relay on the drivers side behind the headlight.
You can swap the running light relay for the head light to test it.
Running light relay is on the passenger side behind the headlight. "

Only Canada had daylight running lamps on their Festivas.
I started with a Canadian harness, but must have cut it out because I didn't know what is was for. My headlights always run when I remember to turn the switch on my combo switch.

I was planning to search the forum before i asked or went to get parts but decided at 8pm friday night that we were gonna butcher chickens at my parents early that Saturday instead of next. Still would have taken me less time to search than type all that, sorry. I got the relay and the main resistor off my parts car. Ill install them and the halogen lights this week and update on which it was. Hopefully just that relay. Thanks for helping me out anyway even though i asked a common question

Ok, so i have it apart and im trying to fix it now. Replaced the relay and it still didnt work. Swapped the old drl relay into the headlight relay spot and the headlights still worked. So its not the relay. I was told the heat sink looking thingy on the firewall had to do with the drl so i grabbed a used one and plugged it in there but still no luck. So is there any other drl related parts? What should i be testing as far as voltage or resistance? Nothing in my haynes manual about it. Thanks

              Follow the dashed lines.
              Good luck.

from 91 EVTM. don't know if your wire colors will be the same.

Wow, thanks! I see that the drl control module has an input from the brake lights. That seems odd, but i rewired my brake lights after my electrical fire, so maybe that has something to do with it. It says its located under the I/P behind the ECA... Could anyone explain that to me? I should check if its getting the power it needs but i dont know what the I/P or ECA is...
Also says there is a ground by the left front corner of the engine by the main relay. I should check that. What main relay are they talking about or where is this ground?
And lastly how do you test the resistor? I presume with an ohmmeter but what kind or reading or what numbers should i get?
This helps a lot though, now i know what the wires are and can check if voltage is getting where it should.

electrical vacuum troubleshoot manual. there's a version for every model year. every primary commode should have one in the reading rack. very many for sale on ebay $5 and up. avoid sellers trying to rip you for much more.

I figured it out! And now i feel stupid. When i had my electrical fire and had to rewire tons of stuff under the dash i already had the HID's installed. I removed the rear wiper fuse because i dont use it-just one less circuit to start a fire. It was a couple days after before i realized the drl's werent working because i was in the habit of immediately turning the headlights on to save the relay. So i didnt consider weather the rear wiper fuse was connected to the headlights...
So it all works now! Thanks a lot! And i will start looking for that manual.

DRL parts- need help locating on car

And it quit working the next day. They intermittently come on and off. So i was just driving with the low beams on till i had time to look at it. If i started the car and the drl's were working sometimes when i got home they werent. Anyway. Started working on it now and they were off. Tried a new resistor and no, new control module and still no. Relay works. It clicks whenever i pull the handbrake or pull the fuse in and out. Just was digging out my electrical tester to check for continuity problems and they came on by themselves. Tried wiggling wires and they wont go out. I hate intermittent electrical problems
Itl have to wait for another day when its not working i guess.
Now that that rant is over does anyone know if the resistor is supposed to be hot to the touch after 10min?

And my interior light didnt work all winter. I removed it and cleaned the contacts a bunch last year and it worked for a week then quit. I tried once after that again but not too seriously. I went all winter in the dark. Now today i went to replace it and turned it on to try it just before unscrewing it and it worked! Ahhhh!
