overheated, Now won't start.

Hey guys.

I overheated my 91 ford festiva. The thermostat stuck and I didn't notice until the engine shut off on the highway. So it got hot.

I towed it home behind my truck and now it won't start. It does crank.

I'm guessing the compression is gone so it won't start. What should I check first though before I start tearing into the motor?

The basics: fuel, spark, compression. Also check for mixed fluids (coolant in oil and visa versa). These engines will take a lot of abuse.

Double check your fuses too!

They do take a lot of abuse, i overheat mine regularly :/
Check fluids like they said first, then Pull a plug and check for spark. If you have it pull all plugs and see if they look funny or how the gap is. If you dont check fuses and regular stuff. Push in that pressure testing valve on the fuel rail while someones cranking it as a wuick test for fuel. Then check compression. Any bubbles in the coolant while cranking? How is the coolant level?

Well nevermind, i just went to check and it doesnt. I could have sworn it did though, and now i dont know why. If your right and some do and some dont maybe one of my parts cars does, i dont know.

Fuses inside are all good. I don't hear the fuel pump. Going to check for fuel and spark tomorrow.

You won't hear the fuel pump unless you jump it at the test port (2 pin connector at the driver shock tower)

^ or turn the key to start position without pushing in on the clutch. The pump primes while cranking.

No it doesn't... Pump is triggered by crank position at ignition switch and or vaf operation
