So how do you tell if you manual steering rack need to be replaced?
What symptoms should I recognize?

Clunking over bumps .
Turn the wheel all the way to one side look down at the rack the longest side sticking out grap it and wiggle it up and down there shouldn't be any play ,if there is your inner bushings are worn out.
