  • Engine Number question

There are many Festivas for sale, but the sellers know little about the size of the engine,
    is it a 1.3 or a 1.5 ??
They don't include engine size when advertising the car for sale.
Does the engine number determine if it's 1.3 or 1.5 ?

If you mean does B3 = 1.3 or B5 = 1.5. Then yes At least for SOHC engines.
Once you get into DOHC b-series motors, you get like BJ for the DOHC 1.3 (Japan only), or BP for the DOHC 1.8

Here is a good amount of info on the B-Series engines.

1991 Ford Festiva BP (Full Aspire/Rio Swap) (337k Miles) (Around 95k Engine)
2002 Chevy Cavalier LS Sport 2.2L DOHC Ecotec (Threw a Rod)
    1998 Chevy Monte Carlo LS 3.1 V6 (225k miles) Best MPG = 28

I see you are from Australia. The 1.3 and the 1.5 were both used in the Festiva down under depending what year it is.

TorqueEffect, Thanks for the link, good info.

rickbz28, yes downunder and vegimite ( axle grease ) sandwiches.

The 1.3 ,3 speed auto I have, but it is powerless going out for a drive through the hills, and a guzzler of fuel for that size engine. Never missed a beat though and it's been my main transport for 4 years.

Then I simply waited and waited for the right moment and sale, the patience paid off very well.
My "new" Festiva is 1998, 1.5 5 speed, 5 door hatch. This car will soon replace the other, but not selling it, gonna get mothballed as a spare car if required.

With the 1.5 I can travel a bit, the 1.3 auto just does not cut the hills all that well.
