  • Dead Windshield Wipers and a blown fuse

So after my '89 festy sat for 2 days, I was driving it home from work when it started to rain. Hit the wiper arm and nothing, no low speed or high speed. I managed to ease it home in a rainstorm (Thanks Rain-X). Next day I start my investigation by checking fuses, the 15amp fuse labeled WIPERS is blown, easy enough I replace the fuse, turn on the car and still nothing, no wipers at all. I look at the fuses again and the new fuse is now blown. By a friends recommendation I replaced the wiper motor with a much better (looking) junkyard motor, and still nothing, checked for any shorts or exposed wiring, all good but still no wipers and still blowing fuses. So now i'm stumped and any help or insight about this issue would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

The first thing I would do is to unplug the wiper motor, replace the fuse and see if the fuse blows even with the wiper motor unplugged.

If the fuse still blows then the problem is Not the wiper motor.

Try spraying WD-40 into the ignition key hole. That has cured a problem I've had with the wipers not working a couple of times. Also any sign of water getting into the wiring?

Along what WmWatt said, I had trouble with the wipers not working from a worn ignition switch. When they didn't, I could rotate the key back ever so slightly, like a half of the thickness of the key, and they would work. New switch cured it for good.
