  • shift lock system problem

I picked up a 1992 ford festiva lately for my wife. Its a auto, runs great and only needs a muffler.

the problem is that the car wont go into gear now.
I stepped on the brake, turned the key and the shifter wont move.

I tried the override button on the console and it still won't move.

What do I have to check or take apart to make it work?

    Can I just disconnect it?

    any help would be great!

Update: I found a post that may help, ill try it out

I had a '94 aspire that the shift lock wouldnt work i just took the console apart and just unhooked it. I think someone before me spilled soda in it, gummed it up.
