  • Carby B3 ignition timing specs?

Hi guys . just wondering what ignition timing people are running on their carby B3's ?

I just checked mine because I haven't yet and was curious. It was way out at about 7 degrees atdc - ie just off the scale.
My book recons 1 to 3 btdc and the mazda sticker under my bonnet recons 2 atdc +1 or -1 .

Its not pinging eather way . I thought I would split the difference and go right on tdc for the moment till i got it figured out.

Also One silly thing , after tdc is on the grill side of the engine right? Not on the fire wall side?

Thanks for the help guys - Wack

I used to run 12 advanced but I backed it off to 8 and my car doesn't have any complaints. I have an Escort carb though. It was the same with the original I think.

        Jawja Jim.
Thanks mate, about tdc does seem right. She seems to be running way better than before so i'll keep it right at tdc for the moment.

        Zoe60.
Yep , I'm running a little 32/32 weber. Way better than stock.
12 degrees is crazy and even 8 sound awesome.
Between my original 7*atdc and your 12* to 8* btdc, I'm just so surprised that the little b3
will run on such a wide variation.

        Thanks guys - Wack

So why does the carbed version have way different timing specs than the fuel injected version?

            Slightly different cam.

Wack, run it at 6-10 btdc with mid grade fuel and never look back.
