My understanding is that this is for air pressure relief when closing the doors. I don't know if that's right, but it has been my understanding. I know that removing the LH one will greatly simplify the removal/ reinstallation of the wiring harness when replacing the hatch, but tie a string to the harness when pulling it out, to help pull it back in again. And seal it with silicone to prevent water into the void behind the tail lights.

I think its purpose is to provide airflow when you have all the windows (and doors) closed, and have the outside-air vent open. You would think it would also work for pressure relief when closing the doors with windows closed, but I don't think that actually works, or at least not well enough.
Edit: Maybe it's specifically for relieving air pressure when closing the hatch?
Like jawja said, MAKE SURE you seal those vents up! I had a swimming pool in my spare tire tub and couldn't figure out where the water was coming from, after making new gaskets for my tail lights and I still had water coming in, I sealed those vents and no more water.
about the imagen, just rotate the imagen before uploading to the internet,
Hey, sorry guys about the photo big rotated. In my gallery on my phone, the image is right side up. Then, not until I submitted the question did I notice it was sideways. I see where to edit post, and not how to rotate once posted.
Anyhow, I don't understand this vent idea. I do not have a sunroof or open-able roof so why would there become water/humidity in the body that needs to be dissipated. There's a big rubber seal with a substantial lip around the hatch to chanel rain to the sides and down. Why wouldn't these just get a rubber plug which may be sealed or removable for mechanic to rout wiring?
The term for these on FourGreen is "Chamber-Extract" http://www.fourgreen.com/store/scrip...-p-MD00151920A
The part numbers are MD00151920A and MD00151940A.
The water getting into the care actually does not usually go in the hole but around the perimeter as the plastic shrinks and dries out. I have fixed this by pulling them out just a little and then inject clear silicone all around the edges and the push them back in (or you could order new ones from FourGreen).

Fourgreen's nomenclature is sometimes as ridiculous as the translations from the Russian website.
I really mangled the first ones I removed, but now have a method that gets them out pretty much unscathed in about one minute. Yeah, on the sealing them around the edges where there was a gasket. Otherwise, that slope down the side of the hatch will guide the water to the exact spot you don't want it. If you have the thing out already, a small bead of silicone(I prefer black) around the edge where the gasket was, before reinserting will seal it well, with only the squished out stuff needing to be wiped off.

How about sharing the method of removal with us. Thanks.

OK, I'll try and get my daughter to video the procedure. I still have one on the parts car that has never been out. It just involves some pie-shaped wedges cut from a slick finished Dollar Store placemat shoved down the sides between a scraper and the body, more down the inboard side, and grab the piece across the middle of the vent with small vise grips. Slight downward motion pulling and it pulls right out.
