  • Exhaust a little too raspy for my taste

Hey guys.. What muffler/exhaust setups are you guys running, and how do you like them?

I have a b6 carbed swap that I bought, already built.

The car puts out good power, and I don't want to lose any, but the raspyness of the tip muffler is just a little too irritating between 3100-3500 rpm. This is where the system resonates I assume. I am not sure of the brand or model of the muffler, it's a big stainless twin outlet affair. It doesn't sound like a fart can ricer or anything, and at EVERY other RPM it sounds superb, no raspyness, no ricerness, just a nice growl.

It on a jdm B6, with a Holley/Weber 5200 carb. It's running a Genie header and 2.25" all the way back, with an empty cat can. I am thinking about trying a Flowmaster import 60 delta flow, I have one on a Suzuki 1.6 DOHC 16 valve, and it sounds great, and it's resonance is fine, no raspyness...

But the key here is power.. I do not want to lose one HP on the top end. I don't think I would lose any torque... I might even gain a bit with some back-pressure...

but, then again, I am not an exhaust expert....

    Ideas? Comments? Suggestions??

    THANKS...

Here is the best shot I have of it at the moment. The builder (a member here) called it a DTR "Style" Tip muffler. I haven't asked him the brand. It doesn't look cheap though.. it's a nice Stainless piece.

I have had a strait pipe, a grand am gt muffler (current) and that exact muffler you have, im about to put on.

Both the strait pipe and the grand am muffler have that annoying raspy noise your talking aobu tat 3100-3500. I was hoping it was the damn muffler,I have a BP in my car.

          I guess we will see.

What IS this muffler I have? Do you know?? lol...

Yeah... well... I think I am going to try the Flowmaster... I hope I don't lose any power though.. cause if I do... I think I can stand the raspiness.. I just wish it were a little lower in the power band..

What size exhaust piping are you running???

Ive ran 4 different exaust on my festy ive ran a dynomax turbo, sports tone muffler, midas economy muffler and a quiet flow muffer. The best one of all of these was the quiet flow muffler by walker, it is quiet like stock but also is a free flowing muffler so you get best of both worlds, the second one is the dynomax super turbo, if you have a 5 speed i would recommend this one, on my auto it was too loud in the freeway, the midas one is quiet but no horsepower increase. The sportstone was waaaaay tooooooooooo loud. Id recommend the walker quiet flow and if you want more sound to it remove the resonator before the muffler and add bigger pipes, but dont go bigger then 2inches cause youll lose low end torque. I think the Flowmaster 60 series is good too but a little to loud for my taste.

too late, already has a header and 2.25" pipe, all the way back. No resonator, and an empty cat.

I don't care about loud.. it's the raspy resonance between 3000 and 3500 rpm.

I am going with the 60 series I think, or something that Magnaflow offers... I have also considered a supertrapp.
