Bearings? Hissing noise?

Alright i have some weird high pitche hiss or squeal when i turn left or right cant seem to find it...nothing touching or rubbing anywhere...could this be my front hub bearings? It only doea it when i turn left or right and just for a moment any ideas guys? Thanks

More likely the CV joints? Check rubber boots for tears or leaking grease. Test by going to a vacant parking lot and driving slowly in tight circles forward and reverse while listening.

A test for front wheel bearings is to swerve to the left and right while driving and listen for noise. Also park the car, grab the top of the titre, and push and pull to check for play. Should be none. If loose first check axle nut tight. Since the nut is punched to keep from turing pop the dust cover and look at the punch to and see if it's moved away from the indentation on the axle which indicates it's moved.

You could check the wheel lug bolts are tight but that's usually a low pitched clunking sound.

Worn brakes squeal but not when turning.

Steering? Any play in the steering wheel? Try pushing and pulling front wheels from side to side. I'm not up on steering diagnostics. I've had worn tie rid ends but that's low pitched over bumps.

While waiting you could try Youtube. They have lots of videos on front end noise.

Thanks for the info WmWatt i will get that stuff chexked. This noise is very strange as it does not get louder the faster u go and it really seems to make more sound turning left than right but doesnt make hardly any going straight. I suspected the brakes but the noose keeps on even when brakes applied this just has me baffled.

Some suggestions:
In a situation like this I would jack up the entire front of the car and then start it up and go through the motions of driving.
Be sure to put jack stands as well as jacks under the car.
Change gears just like you were driving down the road and make turns in both directions. Have someone walk around the car and listen closely at different locations, or have someone else drive and you do the walking and listening. This should help narrow down the possibilities. If the noise totally disappears while the car is running jacked up, I would first suspect some kind of bearing problem. Have you driven through deep water lately? Have you driven through a pile of brush? Had the car not been driven for a long while just before you noticed this? Snakes?hmmmmmm

I just remembered the tops of the struts. They rotate when turning. If you jack up the car as 1990new suggests and the noise disappears that could indicate strut noise. Is so try popping the rubber caps and sqirting some oil on them. Good luck.

Update time got the Steve checked out turns out it was the front hub bearings, they look very old this is one part i havent replaced or checked till now. Thanks everyone for the info very helpful.
