  • 93 Festiva cold start problem

I just picked up a 93 festiva l five speed. When cold car will start but not idle. I have to hold the gas pedal down a little to keep it running until the car warms up, then it will idle but slightly rough. Ive gone through the vacuum system and put new plugs in. Timing also seems ok. Any ideas on a fix?

Could be numerous things... I would start by checking to make sure there is not Vacuum leaks or any leaks in the intake allowing unmetered air into the engine. Then change the fuel filter since you don't know the vehicles past. Then there is something like an Idle Air Valve or something that may cause the problem. If you search through the Forum you can find other people having similar issues.

Also did the problem start after you put new plugs in or before?
