Wait a minute: so it's not slipping but it does shake like hell... Shake down the inner CV shafts, I bet you have a bad tri-pot bearing. Shakes under acceleration...

Clutch chatter? I have clutch chatter in first, depends on the weather. People have reported same symptom and suggestions have been glazing or moisture on the clutch plate. I don't drive the car much, 1-2 times a week, so put up with it, play with the clutch and accellerator when pulling away from a stop to minimize chatter. Can got for a while without any, then starts up again.Original owner of silver grey carburetted 1989 Festiva. 105k km as of June 2006. 140k km as of June 2021.

The tri-pot is the inner CV, it's a 3 channel bearing cup that allows the CV to move in and out as geometry changes. When one of those bearings go bad, it allows the shaft to wobble and causes a vibration.Trees aren't kind to me...

Is that actually on the shaft? Or is it inside the trans where the shaft goes in, i really am not familiar with this part, my cv joints arent very old maybe have 20k on them but with all parts as usual could fail whenever.Originally posted by FestYboy View PostThe tri-pot is the inner CV, it's a 3 channel bearing cup that allows the CV to move in and out as geometry changes. Well couldnt see or feel anything wrong with the cv shafts, ie the joints themselves sooo spent the money on 2 new ones and replaced result is not much if any better so still the same. i guess im gettin used to the way it is driving and i can almost get the shaking/slipping feeling to disappear depending on clutch pedal release the slower the worse it is the faster u release it gets better but is still there, short of pullin trans and opening it up and rechecking the clutch bearing and pressure plate i guess its gonna stay this way till i decide i cant stand it any more...still runs drives good other than that. Thanks again everyone for the info

Unfortunate that you spent $ with no positive result.
Wish I was there to help diag. There's something we're missing.Trees aren't kind to me...

Is it a chattering / slipping clitch?
If you rev higher than normal and slip the clutch a bit is it smooth?
Mine did the shaking / chatter after a clutch
replacement it smoothed out after about 3k miles.
I did not resurface the flywheel
Oh and if yiu interested in a "parts " 5 speed I have one for cheap like 20 bucks cheap.
I think the diff pin walked because it ticks like a card in the spokes of a bike when decelering but I never pulled it apart to check I got stuck ice fishing and I was pretty hard on it getting unstuck . I pulled it and put in a 4 speed because I had a 60 mile one way commute to work and didn't want to get stranded.
I see your in Illinois so figured you may want it if your not too far.Last edited by william; 10-23-2016, 08:06 PM.
