So i took your advice and drove it for about 15-20 minutes maybe. Ran fine the whole time. I believe the thermostat has been removed causing the auto-choke to stay open longer because After it finally heated up the high idle went away plus the heat gauge doesnt go up to the middle just comes up a tad. But it also stopped smoking. I never really got over 25-30mph so i could still see any smoke. I'm also going to give it a few minutes to cool and ill go back and pull the plugs and see what they look like. And today since its 29 degrees i realized i have no heat lol. I'm going to go tag and insure it tomorrow and start driving it to work a little bit and just see what happens. I am in LOVE with this thing. Almost makes me wanna retire the 6 speed tacoma lol

Just need a fitting to go from an air line to spark plug thread and a valve spring compresser. Should be able to rent or loan-a-tool both. Same with compression tester.
Car wont have any heat till you replace that thermostat
Any brand will do, if you want to have a real nice one the oem mazda is a dual stage like the motorcraft was. Works nice. I like the felpro thermostat gaskets. Also super cheap on rockauto.

But yes, probably would be allot easier with shop air and a fitting for the spark plug threads.Last edited by TorqueEffect; 02-04-2017, 12:49 AM.1991 Ford Festiva BP (Full Aspire/Rio Swap) (337k Miles) (Around 95k Engine)

Got the fitting and spring compressor. Going to set in on that as soon as the gaskets come it. Still doing the same thing. Smokes for a few minutes then clears up. So I'm pretty sure it's the seals. Not sure about gap on the plugs. Got to locate my gauge or get a new one. 30 minute ride today in it with no issues other than the first few minutes of smoke and speedo quit working. But on the bright side got my speakers hooked up. Back hatch now has a new support fixed the sloppy shutting of the doors and ordered a axel! Thanks for the info y'all!

You ordered a cv axle? Did you get the output shaft seal for it? Its easy to change them when your doing an axle but a super huge pain to do it 50km after changing an axle when they start leaking, lol.
Speedo quit working? Remove cable, remove cable from sheath, clean dried grease off cable with solvent, spray cable and sheath liberally with aerosol graphite lube. Reinstall.

"Good! When installing it and the new gasket make sure to not break the thermostat housing, lol. Some people have problems with that..."
Right on, Ryan. When reinstalling the thermostat housing be careful with the alignment because tightening the bolts will crack the housing if not correctly aligned.Original owner of silver grey carburetted 1989 Festiva. 105k km as of June 2006. 140k km as of June 2021.
