  • Cracked radiator, upgrades?

Just wondering if it is worth getting a larger radiator for my b3? I have no aircon so plenty of room to do it.

Also I am from Aus, so It gets pretty hot here in the summer and I have no trouble with the engine running too cold

I live in Florida and it probably gets almost as hot as Australia but I have never had overheating issues in my Festy but if you can get one for cheaper then it might be worth it.

The factory upgrade is the auto unit and AFAIK, it's the only one they produce anymore.

Thank you for the quick replies. Say I go to the rad shop, what do I ask for? My car is a 90 da 121. will that fit reasonably easy?

All you need is the auto trans version of the rad for your chassis.

Yup, core should be 1inch thick and there should be ports on the bottom for the transmission cooler hoses which you will leave plugged.
Over here they dont even sell new rads for manual transmissions anymore, i presume its the same there.

Where's the crack? If it's in the metal section, it can be soldered.
Usually, the rubber gaskets on the reservoir start to leak.
Now you know why am changing my rad to a Festiva brass auto rad.

It's cracked in the top end tank, and it's plastic so no soldering for me

I'm heading to the wreckers today to search for one, if I have no luck I will have to buy a new one.

Just buy a new one, used rads are never worth the effort.

I found a used one that looked brand new, so I grabbed it, gonna chuck it in today. While I was there I saw this. Got me thinking. Although I'd be pretty certain most of the parts are missing and I didn't look to see if it was turbo

This is what I got, slightly thicker than the one in the car. And a whole lot better condition.
Although there is an opening on the bottom (circled in red) I'm guessing there is usually a plug in there or something? I don't know but I need to figure out a way to block it before I can put it in
