  • Fuel pump or relay problem... not getting fuel...

My '93 cranks over (engine rotates) fine but won't start and run. If I squirt in some starting fluid it will fire and run for a few seconds, (so I know it has spark) but no gas is getting to the injectors. Fuel filter looks good.

I notice that when the key goes back from start to run position after the starter quits cranking there are immediately two clicks, slightly different sound from each other, like click... clack.

Neither of my other two Festivas make this sound after the starter quits cranking, so maybe that's a clue.

Maybe the fuel pump relay or the mass air flow sensor?

    Any help appreciated. Thanks.

Also check the inertia switch on the left rear panel under the speaker grill. It cuts off the fuel pump if the car gets bumped or hit in an accident.

Install a known good VAF from one of your other Festivas and crank the engine. Disconnect the VAF connector with the thin wire clip and not the screws.
