  • Which is easier or faster?

My Black Festiva (Rusty) might have a bad water pump. My blue Festy I just got, needs a 5 speed tranny (which I have) or clutch.
Which job will take less time?
I'm leaning in the way of the tranny. Rusty's guts will eventually be switched into a rust free body. So when I have the engine out, that's when I probably should replace the water pump .... if it's bad.
I just don't want to go without a festy for very long .....

I would do the water pump. No more than a 1 day job. Take care of any leaks and timing belt etc at the same time.

Never know what you will find wrong when changing trans clutch.

Its a toss up for me... Takes about the same time...
I should say let's put it this way: it takes as much or as little time as I have to do the job lol.

I think the water pump would be much Faster I did one on my b6d in less then 2 hours.
If the cars rusty you risk breaking crossmember bolts if you pull it from the top it's more time.
Also the axels may fight you. The water pump has much less to go work or fight you over.
I say do both and have them both fixed.

I think I will do the tranny in the festy I just got. It's rust free and it will be my daily driver when I do the body switch on Rusty. Besides when I start pulling everything out of Rusty to put in the rust free shell, I can do the water pump then when I have the engine pulled.
          Thanks everyone for your advices.
