1989 auto/ all original. I am planning to replace struts all around. Went to Rockauto to research options. They list 3 brands of fronts with what is [to me] a ??able variation in stroke length. KYB 7.28, Monroe 6.0, and Gabriel 5.2. All are listed as OEM replacements. Looking for nice firm ride without being beat to death. Any helpful advice will be appreciated. Thanks

I run KYB's on mine. I have used Gabriel's but I'd stay away from Monroes. I've heard not so good things about Monroes on Festiva's.Jerry

The coilovers are amazing. It makes the festiva feel like a big normal car with bumps. The ride quality is great. 500$ for the entire setup but well worth it.1990 (LUCIFER 2.0) fully built BP+T with E153, Fueltech FT500, traction control with hopes of 600hp (i drank to much of the KOOL-AID)

I bought KYB from Rock Auto and they work and feel fine. I don't know if the stroke length variation among brands matters. One brand probablly has some variation in resistance and travel over the same road surface, one might feel a bit stiffer than another.Original owner of silver grey carburetted 1989 Festiva. 105k km as of June 2006. 140k km as of June 2021.

That's most likely a wheel imbalance. Having weak struts will make this condition more dramatic. Start with a tire balance and look for any out of round condition. If the tire is out of round, it won't matter if it balances out or not, you'll always have a shake.Trees aren't kind to me...

One possible way to diagnose that problem is to rotate the tires and see if it has any effect. I've "cured" a tire problem by simply swapping the fronts.Original owner of silver grey carburetted 1989 Festiva. 105k km as of June 2006. 140k km as of June 2021.
