  • Engine coolant question

Might seem obvious, but I've never owned a car without a manual, just bought a 90 festiva from a friend and I'm having to replace the cooling system. What is the best coolant type/mixture, not concerned with brand, so long as I can afford it?

I use the universal generic Autozone coolant. Personally I like to buy the concentrated stuff and dilute it myself, I think it's $17/ gallon. The Festiva system barely takes two gallons iirc

Check for the low temperature protection of the antifreeze on the container? Doubt you'd need very low in Texas. Makes me wonder if they sell different strengths in different parts of the globe. As the man wrote you can get ready mix or mix your own. If mixing your own they recommend distilled water. Up here in the far North we have melted snow which is water distilled by nature. I keep a gallon on hand 'year round. .

Just get the old style universal green antifreeze and change it every 3 years.
You can use whatever brand you want probably, just whatever you do do not mix different styles!!! Like the green with honda, ford or dexcool. They react with eachother

jack the front as high as she will go, 50/50 mix is best, system will hold 1.5 gallon
