  • Battery drain help please

So I let the car sit for about a week and I went to go start the car and it was dead. So I jumped it and it started fine. Drove it around for little bit and ran great. Then parked it for the night went to start it the next morning and was dead again. So I put a charger on the battery and now I'm trying to figure out where to start looking. Here in Northern California it's been well over a 100. So I have searched and can't find a place to start looking. It draws somewhere and drains the battery. I disconnected my train horn only option hooked up is after market radio.

This may sound silly, but are you turning the car completely off? Literally EVERYTIME my family drives my Car for whatever reason, they leave it in ACC position and the Radio will drain my battery.

Yes I turn it off all the way every time. Or the key won't come out.

Aftermarket radio is wired to come on with key? Any chance it was wired always hot?

Have you tested the battery, it may just be a bad battery.
The heat will make things worse.

            Read up on parasitic drain.
Measure how much power is being sucked besides the radio channel memory and the ECU.
Between the battery and the terminal.

Yes just got the battery tested two different places. Passed both. So with the raido it has wire harnesses that wires to radio and plugs into factory harness. Where should I go from there? Why can I start testing?

What I would do is get a multimeter and measure amperage - disconnect the hot and put the multimeter between it and the battery. Then you can see how much parasitic draw is on when the car is off. Next, pull fuses one and replace them one by one to see which circuit is responsible for the drain- you may have a short or something

My battery is drained from the electric seat belt circuit. When I pull the fuse, the battery will crank the car after sitting for a month. If I leave the fuse connected, the battery will be dead after 3 days.

I was under the impression that you could not check dc amperage with a typical multimeter. How do you do this? Would be amazing if i could.
