  • Wow. Autozone V Belts are terrible

    Hey everyone!

Update on my issues here! I installed the new alternator with a new V-Belt and it has been running great! But this new belt is absolutely trash.

No matter how tight (or loose) I make the belt, it always squeals like a tire in a burnout. It is working the water pump and alternator just fine, but just after a short drive, the belt has almost been rubbed flat.

I put on the old V-Belt (very worn, but works), and boom. The noise is gone. Gotta go find a solid brand VBelt. These autozone belts are absolute TRASH.

Autozone belts are not top tier, but are usually ok for a season, could be a belt width issue or a badly made production batch.

Post part # and pic of installed AZ belt, we might be able to see the issue for you... Otherwise, drop the coin for a Gatorback or Dayco belt...

Do you still have the package? If so does it say "made in ...."? Don't have Autozone here in Canada that I'm aware of but retail chains usually contract out manufacturing to their specs. If you look up the part number on the Internet it might also show up under the manufacturer's name and you can tell who made it that way.

P.S.I've got into keeping receipts. If you still have your you can probably take the belt back and get an exchange, refund, or credit toward their better line if they have one. Usually a 3 month or so warranty.

Unless an emergency, always go top-tier for parts.

not to rub it in but the old adage is true. you get what you pay for. i try not to buy parts from AZ, AA, RA and other china outlets and go to napa instead. but i suspect they too are buckling to the allure of the "celestials" low, low prices .
