How are the engine ground straps? Clean and tight?

They are heavy gauge copper wire with brass eyes. They bolt between the engine and the body. The engine must be properly grounded. Everything must get back to the battery. Electricity travels at the speed of light.

Do you have the proper firing order?

Ok I got it fired and it runs now when I hooked up the radiator and poured antifreeze in it's now leaking out on the passenger side of the oil pan but it's not in the oil and I can't see where it's actually coming from

Sounds like waterpump leaking down inside timing cover.
What did you do to get it to run?

What kind of Compression are you getting in each cylinder? You may be a tooth off on the Timing.

Usually a good idea to flush these older engines a few times with water anyway before adding coolant.

Just dont forget to drain some of that water after and dispose of it properly when you add more antifreeze. I think it was the second year i had my festiva i put too much water in and forgot to drain some out and add coolant later. It was still very green so i never thought of it after i forgot... i had a 2hr drive in -20c temps with no heat. Didnt realize that my coolant had frozen until about half way through the drive. That was cold, i wasnt dressed for bo heat...

The battery was just completely dead. After charging for about an hour with crappy jumper cables it fired.
