Heavy Rain

I drove my Festiva last night for the first time in Heavy Rain and the poor thing did not like it at all. The car was missing really bad from what I assume is water getting on the Distributor and causing it to arc.

Do I just need to replace the distributor cap or is there something else I should be looking at?

Run the engine at night with no lighting and look for arcing. Spritz the coil, wires and cap with water. You will find your problem.

WD-40 disperses moisture. Grease works too. Do you see water anywhere under the hood or could it just be moisture in the air. i.e. dampness?

Ive never had trouble in heavy rain, but every single time i pressure wash the engine bay it missfires terribly until the cap and rotor dry out. Just inspect everything, maybe a wire is bad or the cap has a spot that water gets in easy.

Pretty sure it is the Cap, it misfires in the morning sometimes when the car sits overnight until it warms up. I have had it happen after washing before but this is the first time I have had to drive it in Heavy Rain. Luckily the rain calmed way down by the time I needed to get on the interstate.

It might be condensation on the inside of the cap. That would happen overnight when the temperature drops. I'd take off the cap and wipe the underside, then screw it back on firmly but not enough to crack it, so moisture isn't getting in round the seal.
