trouble idleing cold.

okay so ill try to describe the problem as best I can. when I start my car up in the cold it wont idle unless I hold the revs up with the gas and after about a minute of this it idles on its own. sometimes if I tap the gas once its idleing it'll try to stall unless I floor it. After it warms up it seems to run fine. the clutch feels a bit weird as well but that's for another thread I think. its a 1989 4 speed (carby)

automatic choke not engaging? I'd look at the choke linkages and give the carb and linkages a good spray of carb cleaner to disolve any carbon build up.
