  • Manual Transmission Problems

I bought a 1988 ford festiva from a friend that is stuck in 5th gear. He told me that it was fine for a while, then he could only get 1st 3rd and 5th and now its just 5th. Im wondering if i need to take the tranny out to fix it.

shift gate lever most probably. Mine was the same lady i bought i from said tranny was locked up, lucky me it was stuck in first to get in on the trailor. Swap the tranny...easy fix, might as well do the clutch while your at it

Lucky for me they redid the clutch before the tranny went out. I heard that the tranny is the same as the ones they put in metros?

It has 160 thousand miles on it and he managed to drive it home even though it was stuck.

Really? I thought all 88s and some 89s were 4 speeds?

before i blew my differential from burnouts my tranny was doing the same thing it would get stuck in gear and i had a hell of a time getting it out, but like i said blew the diff. so i had to replace the tranny anyway

If no one from the future stops you from doing it, how bad of a decision can it really be?

                          Clutch

I replaced my clutch and now no one can tell me what fluid I need to put in the transmission to replace the amount that came out. Anyone know what weight gear oil I need to use for a stock 88 ford festiva manual transmission?
