    Time to replace my clutch, Anyone have info on a good clutch kit that works well under spirited driving conditions.Just would like to see what others have used with luck. 93 Festiva 1.6Na aspire trans. 19-Photo 19.jpg19-Photo 19.jpg

    Just to let you know you can replace the clutch without having to take the trans out. You just unbolt engine from trans, remove the lower front pulley(s) and the upper motor mount and the engine will come out at an angle (front of the engine angled UP)

    Installing is just the opposite - you have to angle the back of the engine DOWN engine to slip the flywheel back into the clutch/trans housing and then wiggle it around to get the transmission shaft into the clutch and pilot bearing. Major pain in the ass and patience required, but it isn't that hard to do.

    While the engine is out of the car you can replace the throw out bearing and pilot bearing at the same time and change out the transmission fluid.

    It can be done in a couple of days, but plan on 3 to 5 days in case it doesn't go smoothly. Having a helper the whole time makes things easier.

      Welcome to the forum!

      The Exedy clutch is well thought of as a stock clutch. It will easily handle your NA 1.6.

        A clutch should take 2-3 hours and the engine stays IN, as does most of the trans.

        As for a kit, first choice is Exety, a close second is LuK. No need to to hunt down a "performance" clutch.
        Trees aren't kind to me...

          I've never done the clutch but the Haynes manual says "Access to the clutch components is normally accomplished by removing the transaxle, leaving the engine in the vehicle." It goes on to say if the engine is removed for some other reason it's a good idea to replace an old clutch while it's out because the clutch costs a lot less than the labour.. It also says to support the engine while the transaxle is out either from above with chains or below with a jack and piece of lumber to spread the weight, and "to support the clutch disc during removeal install a clutch alignment tool through the ckutch disc hub". Hope that helps and doesn't confuse the issue.

              Thanks for the info on Clutch, This would not be my first time doing this, just going to order a new fly wheel along with clutch kit just to speed thing along,Taking the trans out is faster than putting it back in on your own. Happy New Year to all.

                Don't forget to replace the rear main seal while you are there, the Felpro ones are good quality.
