rack and pinion or inner tie rod?

I was told by the alignment shop that i had too much play on the steering rack. But didnt tell me the exact problem. I put the car on the jack and wiggled the right front tire back and forth and herd a clucking sound near the right bellows boot. what could that be the problem a inner tie rod or bad steering rack?? How do i check a bad inner tie rod??

Festiva in the air

wheels turned to the right ( for checking the left inner tie rod)

hand on boot (you will feel the inner tie rod end)

other hand turn the wheel

you will feel the play -if any - before the joint

or you can remove the wire tie holding the boot to the rack and observe

reverse for the right side
