  • crank pulley timing markings?

    Ok, I've been having alot of trouble tring to set my electrical timing, I can't seem to find any marks on the crank pulley, Haynes says that for later models (93) there is a notch on the timing guard (not the scale, a notch) and a yellow mark on the crank pulley. I don't seem to have any of these, maybe because this motor is sort of comprised of different parts from a number of different years of construction, so it could have been a pulley off of an older model. Is there any other way I can use the timing light to set my timing?

    I'm just going to up date this abit, I found the notch on the lip of the crank pulley and the little prong (not the scale) on the timing cover and painted them white, so do I set the timing light to 10 deg. and adjust the distributor until the light flashes when they line up, or is when these particular points I have marked line up not an accurate reference, because the hayens said to use the yellow mark on the crank pulley, and this is the notch on the pulley I'm using, or are they the same thing?

      Sounds like my car :-). I had to get underneath and turn it with a wrench to find the mark(s). There were 2 of them, no paint on either. I painted both of them yellow. Then, when using the light, I noticed I also have both a scale and a single pointer. Since it's running well and the marks line up with the pointer, I'm assuming it is the thing to use. Also, since one of the marks gets there ahead of the other (the one on the right) it's got to be the 10 degree mark and the other the TDC mark.
