Ok, So when you said you replaced the ICM I was thinking of something else. I don't know what the part I'm thinking of is actually called-I always thought It was the ICM... So before I joined this forum on my old festiva about 6years ago it started to shut off for like 1/8th of a second and come right back on. felt like just a little hesitation at first, happened once, then like a month later... it started happening more often and longer- 1/4second, 1/2 second. half a second is about as long as it got, I let it go for a year. Then it just died. Let it cool down and it restarted and I drove it home. My neighbour diagnosed it because I couldn't figure it out. he said it was the electronics inside the distributor. I replaced it with a used one off my parts car and its been running for 6yrs since. Like I said, I thought it was the icm, but I went out to look at that car and my icm is in the same location as yours and I never touched mine. I am thinking maybe its the camshaft position sensor which is in the distributor. we don't have a crank sensor so this is the only one. it tells the coil when to fire. maybe yours is firing when the rotor is not touching a contact on the cap? that's my only theory.
      Ill contact people near you.

How hard is it to replace the distributor??
I have read that it involves timing.

As far as I could tell everything lined up perfectly.
*edit.. They are rocker arm shafts.

Yeah, I guess it would with the shafts. IDK if I would have thought of that... but hey it works obviously

Hey Fellas, look at post #8 where the rocker has slid over, someone had that cam out and did not get the side load spring back in place, the spring is on top of the bolt pedestal.
An idea can turn to dust or magic, depending on the talent that rubs against it.

also in post#24 the cam is in upside down, notice the oiling hole is showing, it should be facing down. it's the intake cam that is upside down.

Yes.That is why I replaced the spacers and all 4 arms. #4 was very off center also. Everything lined up perfectly once new shaft and arms were installed.
As far as I know someone could chime in and say that is why it won't start anymore. I'm no mechanic, obviously.
I do appreciate all the input though.

I did mention this picture was taken before I bolted shaft to head. I did forget to mention that 2 arms were backwards in pic. I definitely noticed before bolts were installed. Good eye.
                      This was fixed after pic.

ok no worries then, carry on. you mess with these things long enough and you start to see things.

Do you think that anything I messed with under the valve cover could be responsible for my no-spark issue?

Is this an 88 carb engine originally?
No, under the VC would have nothing to do with no spark
