How much gas do you have in the tank?

I thought it might. That is normally a sign of fuel starvation from a dirty fuel sock, filter or low fuel level in the well that the pump lives in.

Next time it won’t crank, spray some starter fluid in the intake and try it again. That will tell you if it’s a fuel related no start.

Once, my 2007 Dodge Caliber bucked at sealevel, after returning from high mountain passes. The Dodge dealer reset the electronics & was excellent thereafter. My carbureted 1988 Ford Festiva always had very mild jerking at lower rpms, Then I noticed greater jerking, when ascending the hill to home, when shifting to 3rd gear. Switching to 100% gasoline (no 10% ethanol) solved all mild hesitations & jerking.....& added another 7% to 8% MPG.

Sounds like you need a distributor.
'88 Festiva LX 5 speed, A/C, Carb, restored $$$ body paint, badly wrecked @ 200k.
'93 Festiva L, 5 speed, Aqua, bought from the original owner,.Zero rust but very nasty otherwise. Awaits the B6T.
'91 Festiva L, 5 speed, bought to drive while putting the B6T in the '93. now B6ME powered.
