Try reving at idle to see if it happens to eliminate drive train?Original owner of silver grey carburetted 1989 Festiva. 105k km as of June 2006. 140k km as of June 2021.Comment

I thought it might. That is normally a sign of fuel starvation from a dirty fuel sock, filter or low fuel level in the well that the pump lives in.Originally posted by Slefevre View Post

Next time it won’t crank, spray some starter fluid in the intake and try it again. That will tell you if it’s a fuel related no start.Originally posted by Slefevre View Post

It fires up. Will also pull start. Is it icm? Had an 88 efi f150 did the same thing icm was bad got hot then died

Once, my 2007 Dodge Caliber bucked at sealevel, after returning from high mountain passes. The Dodge dealer reset the electronics & was excellent thereafter. My carbureted 1988 Ford Festiva always had very mild jerking at lower rpms, Then I noticed greater jerking, when ascending the hill to home, when shifting to 3rd gear. Sounds like you need a distributor.'88 Festiva LX 5 speed, A/C, Carb, restored $$$ body paint, badly wrecked @ 200k.
'93 Festiva L, 5 speed, Aqua, bought from the original owner,.Zero rust but very nasty otherwise. Awaits the B6T.
