Seriously back when I was young,and stupid or anyway not as knowledgeable as I am now,I'd have cars with torn boots I'd clean the grit out the best I could on the car, stuff em full of axle grease and do it again next oil change and those cars seemed to go forever as long they never go dry or get to gritty.So I think you will be just fine. I would use different boot clamps the correct clamps can be compressed with dull dykes and zip ties work great on the little ends.
