  • Replacement Accelerator cable

Once again the 93 GL is messing up. Somehow, the linkage for the accelerator has messed up. The cable has start to come apart and its getting jammed up internally causing the accelerator to stick. I'm looking around but I haven't found any new cables. What would you guys recommend for a replacement? I'm a little hesitant to use a used one since the same thing could happen again.

In my 28 years of owning Festivas, I've never seen an accelerator cable fail so if it were me, I would not hesitate to replace it with a used one.

On the other hand, I bought a VW 412 Sedan new in 1973 and the accelerator cable broke in less than 6 months. Also had a 1966 Simca 1000 and the accelerator cable broke
after 8 years... I was a work when it did so I connected a piece of twine to the accelerator at the carburetor and ran through the cooling ven slot in the hood (rear engine) along the outside of the car through the drivers side window and pulled on the string to accelerate. Made it home (about 20 miles) with no problem.

I swear this 93 GL is an embarrassment to Festivas. It has had so many weird things go wrong with it. Blowby in the engine and for some reason it still runs a bit hot(so I rebuilt the engine), now the passenger side axle wont stay fully in the transmission so I have to see whats wrong with the c clip, a fuel line developed a rupture in the engine bay and now the accelerator cable got chewed up and jammed causing the throttle to stick. My 88 LX 5 Speed is SO much more reliable and its older with significantly more mileage.
