  • speedometer noise

anyone know why a speedometer will make a loud noise and the gauge needle moves back and forth like a windshield wiper? whats causing it, and what parts need to be replaced to fix the problem?

either a bad cable or a bad speedo head. pull the cable first and see if it has any lube in it. if its dry, lube it with thin grease and retry it...

this is the first thing i fixed on mine.
      zzzzzz zzz z z zzzzz z
anything over 40 and it was jumping.
i took out the speedo and greased the place where the cable hooks up and it has been 4 months and it is quiet.
      no jumping.
      try that .
my friend says a cable will just break and not make it jumo.
      hope this helps.

I just checked autozone website and they sell the festiva speedo cable for $6.99 part # CA-4001. It is in stock at my autozone so I'm going to pick one up. My speedo bounces. When I 1st got the car it was fine then I changed clusters and it was bouncy. I assumed it was the cluster then I got another and it does the same. For $7 I'll try a new cable.
