  • LX wiper intermittent feature -- can I transplant it?

The headlight control on the orange control stalk in one of my LXs has failed (no continuous high beam and not turning on tail lights with headlights).

I have several orange control stalks I've purchase from this site just to be ready for this situation. However, I now notice that, while they're all orange, none of them have the intermittent wiper feature.

Can I transplant the intermittent wiper feature from the partially-dead stalk I just removed from the car to one of my non-intermittent stalks to install back in the car? It looks (see photos) like I can. It looks like the intermittent feature just attaches in place of the non-intermittent feature using the same screw (on the left in the photo) and with the right screw going into an otherwise unused hole. In rear views photo, the screw on donor and hole on recipient are circled in red.

Yes, I believe that is correct. When these parts were still available through Ford, to add int. wipers you ordered a switch and a handle. All you got is the wiper portion of the switch - but Okay because that was all that was needed. Should work.

      hot4dl8ly,

Great! I'll set up for a "transplant" this weekend.

Transplant was SUCCESSFUL! My orange control stalks assembly with failed "push for continuous high beams" functionality successfully donated his "intermittent wipers" functionality to a "slow-fast-only wipers" orange control stalks assembly.

The procedure took only about 20 minutes. The only "side effect" I notice is that the recipient's push for wash" functionality does not work with the wiper switch in the OFF position. Another LX here does not have that problem. I'm pretty sure that the donor assembly did not have this problem (but I'm not about to undo the transplant to find out).

So .. don't junk your stalk assemblies with headlight/turn signal problems but working intermittent wipers.

Interestingly, the "intermittent" position is built into the assemblies, but the non-intermittent sub-assembly mechanically disables it. So, there's actually no need to transplant the wiper stalk lever itself except to get its labelling showing "INT."
