  • Instrument panel lighting not working

    88LX …

After replacing a failed steering column control stalk (which fixed the problem of high beams and tail lights not working), I now find that the instrument panel lighting isn't working.

Instrument panel lighting goes through the same fuse (15A marked "TAIL") as the tail lights and license plate lights, both of which are working, so the fuse is good.

Other than all the instrument panel lighting bulbs suddenly burning out, is there any obvious reason for the instrument panel lighting alone to fail? Problem with the new control stalk? I do have yet another stalk I can try if necessary.

If I do decide to replace the instrument panel lighting lamps, does anybody have a part number? Is there a plug-and-play LED replacement?

All the juice to the instrument panel bulbs flows through the dimmer switch.

I measure power (on red wire relative to black wire) coming out of the connector into which the dimmer switch plugs in.

I see only open-circuit across all pin-pairs on dimmer switch.

I'll install another dimmer switch when it gets dark. Unfortunately, today's a sunny day here in the rain forest.

If the switch is the problem and you jumper the wires the instrument panel should light up?

Dimmer from parts car did the trick. Apparently the dimmer that's been in the car forever decided this was the time to fail.
